Meet the Publican: Hannah Davies, The Swan at Whiston
Next to face our ten questions is Hannah Davies, who runs The Swan at Whiston
What inspired you to run a pub?
I’ve grown up in this trade & I’m thoroughly enjoying continuing my dad’s legacy in the pub
Why should people come to your pub?
To sample our range of ales, traditional cider & wide range of home cooked food, from full meals to bar snacks, fresh cobs & homemade sausage rolls
What will we find behind the bar to delight our tastebuds?
We have Wye Valley HPA & Holden’s Golden Glow on permanently with 2 rotating guest ales & 2 rotating keg lines also
Do you have any regular or occasional events?
Each year we have a beer festival/family fun day & also our bonfire night which is always a huge hit
What are the best & worst parts of the job?
Best parts: meeting all of the customers & making them happy with what we do at the pub. Worst parts: I wouldn’t say there’s much, I enjoy all aspects of the job
You have a free weekend – what do you do?
The occasional free weekend is usually spent the right side of the bar & trying other local pubs or fishing
Any funny moments you can share?
One of the most funny moments recently – a few cyclists were in a while back, drinking Wye Valley’s Butty Bach Reserve & proceeded to cycle off into our hedge upon leaving!
What three words best describe your pub?
Homely, Friendly & Entertaining
How could CAMRA (local & national) help support you?
Continue doing everything that they already are, we all aspire to be a part of CAMRA & to receive your accreditation
Tell us you best (or worst) pub joke
‘Does anyone have any allergies at all?’ – ‘Yes, just the bill’ – we hear this one a lot. Or ‘Can we get you anything else at all?’ – ‘Yes, £20 out of the till please’
Many thanks to Hannah for taking the time to answer our questions.
