Meet the Publican: Sandra & Matt Bunn, Market Vaults, Stafford
This time we pitch our ten questions to Sandra & Matt Bunn, new landlady & landlord of The Market Vaults, Stafford
What inspired you to run a pub?
We have both previously run pubs, and Matt has worked in catering/ hospitality for most of his working life. We felt like this was a good time for us to get back into something we really love doing
Why should people come to your pub?
We want to ensure that everyone who comes to visit us has a great experience, we strive to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and in time we will be offering a great selection of food as well.
What will we find behind the bar to delight our tastebuds?
We currently stock Wainwrights gold and will have Directors Courage available very soon. There hasn’t been many ales previously but we are both passionate about ales so we will be building that back with guest ales and giving our customers the chance to vote on what next.
Do you have any regular or occasional events?
We do, we have a Quiz Night every other Wednesday and an open Mic night every other Sunday. In time we will be bringing back live music events.
What are the best & worst parts of the job?
One of the best parts for us is interacting with our customers, we’ve found that it has such a wonderful community feel, and we feel like we’ve know some of the regulars for years, it’s a joy to see people having fun and enjoying themselves.
I think the worst parts is probably the long hours of standing, and cleaning up at the end of the night, but it’s worth it so we don’t mind.
You have some time off – what do you do?
We spend our free time with family, we have 4 children and 1 granddaughter, so enjoying some down time with them is our priority.
We are also Beekeepers so we spend some of our free time looking after our bees and collecting Honey.
Any funny moments you can share?
I can’t think of anything but, people will see very quickly that I’m (Sandra) very clumsy, so I am bound to be a great source of entertainment.
What three words best describe your pub?
Friendly Welcoming Fun
How could CAMRA (local & national) help support you?
We would love to know what some great ales are to start getting on sale.
Tell us you best (or worst) pub joke
An Englishman, an Irishman and a Scotsman walk into a pub
The barman says ‘Is this some kind of a joke?’
